The Red River Rivalry was formerly known as the Red River Shootout.

Although the name change was for well-intentioned reasons, there was no more fitting rivalry name in college football.

The games between Oklahoma and Texas tend to be shootouts. The total has been 65 or higher in the last four matchups, and the total was over 74 in three of the last four matchups.

It's almost a guarantee to expect points when these two teams go head-to-head. That is no different this weekend, as the total opened at 62.5 and is already up to 65.5 as of Tuesday evening.

Everybody and their mother is currently betting the over. The over is getting a whopping 88% of the bets as of Tuesday evening. With that sort of action, it is likely the total is only going to rise.

Bookmakers understand this is typically a high-scoring matchup. The over has hit the last two seasons with over 200 points combined over those two games.

But that does not mean the over has hit all of the time.

The over is 5-5 over the last 10 matchups between Texas and Oklahoma, hitting in three of the last five matchups.

If this number stays at 65.5, it will be tied as the lowest total over the last four matchups between these two teams.

Oklahoma has started Big 12 play 0-2 for the first time since 1998 under new head coach Brett Venables. Starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel went out with an injury this past weekend, which is something to monitor.

Oklahoma scored just seven points in the second half vs. TCU without Gabriel.

Texas is dealing with quarterback injury issues of its own. Quinn Ewers — a darkhorse Heisman candidate to start the season — has been out with injury since Week 2 vs. Alabama but is listed as questionable this week.

Whether those two quarterbacks start or not should have massive implications on the total.
