The Texas Longhorns are getting a massive boost before their Red River Rivalry matchup with the Oklahoma Sooners.
Star quarterback Quinn Ewers will make his return vs. the Sooners, our own Brett McMurphy confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Ewers was out with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder he suffered in the first quarter of Week 2 vs. Alabama.
Ewers has dressed for games in recent weeks, but we'll finally see the highly-touted gunslinger back in action for a potent Longhorns offense.
The spread was around Texas -7 at most sportsbooks on Tuesday.
With rumors of Ewers practicing throughout the week and the confirmation from McMurphy, that line has jumped to Texas -8.5 – and climbing.
The spread is as high as -9.5 at legal sportsbooks as of Thursday afternoon. We've logged 66% of the public bets on Texas two days removed from the game.
Oklahoma was actually a 2.5-point favorite on the look-ahead line, before the Sooners lost their first two conference games.
The total, meanwhile, has not moved with Ewers in. It was 65.5 on Tuesday after opening 62.5, and has held firm at most books.
Ewers, a first-year starter, is 25-for-36 for 359 yards and two touchdowns this year. He was 9-for-12 for 134 yards vs. Alabama when he had to be replaced due to injury.
The former five-star recruit transferred from Ohio State to Texas in the offseason.
He will get his chance to slice up an Oklahoma defense that coughed up 688 total yards and 55 points to TCU this past weekend.
Hudson Card has performed admirably in Ewers' absence, which is one reason why Ewers won't move the betting spread completely off the rails.
The Sooners are dealing with a quarterback injury of their own, with Dillon Gabriel leaving the game in the first half against TCU.
He remains questionable and is worth monitoring leading up to the game.
