On Tuesday, we travel to an NRFI paradise in Oakland with the extended foul territory to find value between the Athletics and Angels.
The Angels will send out superstar Shohei Ohtani. Coming into today, Ohtani is 14-4 to the NRFI with a respectable 6-2 road NRFI split. When facing leadoff hitters, Ohtani has dominated, only allowing a .184 average against.
Ohtani has faced some of these Athletics hitters before and here is how they have performed in the past:
- Elvis Andrus: 2-for-11
- Seth Brown: 1-for-9
- Sean Murphy: 2-for-7
- Tony Kemp: 1-for-9
When at home in 2022, the A’s NRFI at one of the highest rates in baseball at 81% of the time.
The Athletics will counter with James Kaprielian. Coming into today, he is 12-4 to the NRFI with a 5-1 home NRFI split. When facing batters the first time through the order, Kaprielian has held his own, only allowing a .181 average.
Kapriellian has some shocking numbers when it comes to his matchups today:
- Shohei Ohtani: 0-for-10
- David Fletcher: 0-for-10
- Jared Walsh: 2-for-11
- Taylor Ward: 1-for-7
It should be noted that Walsh is projected to bat fourth today, and is in the midst of a slump, going 4-for-25 in his last seven days at the plate.
