The Houston Astros head into Game 1 of the ALCS coming off a dominant 10-1 Game 4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Boston got to the ALCS with a series of close wins, including a 6-5 series-clincher where it put up runs early and held off the 100-win Tampa Bay Rays.

Game 1 of the ALCS will kick off with a matchup between two extremely talented left-handers in Boston's Chris Sale and Houston's Framber Valdez. Both pitchers, despite having solid regular season performances, have struggled this postseason.

Boston started Sale against the Rays in Game 2 of the ALDS. In that matchup, Sale struggled mightily, giving up four hits and five earned runs in just an inning.

Of the five earned runs Sale gave up, four of them came off of a Jordan Luplow grand slam.

Valdez has also had some struggles so far this postseason.

In Game 2 of the ALDS against the White Sox, Valdez gave up seven hits and four earned runs in just 4 1/3 innings.

Houston still pulled out the win in Game 2 of the ALDS, using an excellent bullpen performance — Chicago didn't score after its four runs off of Valdez — and an explosive offense to come out on top.

So both clubs have shown the ability to fight through extreme adversity and come out on top whether or not they get elite performances from their respective aces.
