The Indiana sports betting market gained a new operator on Thursday.

Unibet, part of the Kindred Group, is officially available to bettors in the Hoosier State, adding to Indiana’s already impressive sports betting landscape.

Kindred reached an agreement with Caesars Entertainment in February. That deal gave Unibet an opportunity to launch in Indiana and Iowa.

The Indiana Gaming Commission granted Unibet a temporary sports wagering license on May 13 before allowing it to fully go live Thursday.

Its Indiana deal runs through Horseshoe Hammond casino, which is owned by Caesars.

Before launching in Indiana, Unibet made itself available in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Its presence has continued to grow in the those states as well. In the past year, the company has reached partnership agreements with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and NHL's New Jersey Devils.

In England, it has become the official betting partner of soccer clubs Aston Villa, Preston North End, and Middlesbrough.

While the Indiana market has proven itself as a great place to launch, Unibet will certainly find its fill of competition. It enters the market following the likes of DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, BetRivers, PointsBet, and BetAmerica.

Indiana followed the New Jersey model when it legalized sports betting, which will help Unibet as it finds its footing in the state.

Its full online betting plays a key role for new operators like Unibet, as does the state’s population and proximity to major cities without legalized betting.

Its timing doesn’t hurt, either. With the NBA, and NHL planning to return this week — along with MLB’s running season — revenue will only go up in the coming weeks.

Indiana has the fourth-highest revenue in the country since the Supreme Court struck down PASPA in 2018.

It’s also one of four states to never dip below the million-dollar revenue mark during the coronavirus crisis, demonstrating a consistency that will be friendly to Unibet as it begins its journey in Indiana.
