Ohio sports betting is off to a torrid start as sports bettors in the Buckeye State recorded more than 11 million sports betting transactions in the first two days of legal betting, according to GeoComply.

The geolocation service, which published the information in a news release earlier this week, officially logged 11.3 million transactions from 783,864 unique accounts on Sunday and Monday. Ohio officially launched online and in-person sports betting on Sunday.

More than a dozen sportsbooks went live on the first day of mobile betting, including: FanDuelBetMGMbet365CaesarsBarstoolDraftKingsPointsBetBetfredSuperBook, and Hard Rock.

“We are thrilled to welcome another state into the regulated online sports betting sector," GeoComply Senior Vice President of Compliance Lindsay Slader said in the release. "As expected, residents of the Buckeye State enthusiastically greeted the market at the moment the calendar changed over to 2023."

The 11.3 million transactions led all states during that time period. New York was second with 9.3 transactions while neighboring Pennsylvania was third with a little over 8 million transactions.

According to GeoComply, Cincinnati was the area in the state with the most betting transactions at 1.9 million. Some of that could be attributed to Cincinnati's proximity to Kentucky, which does not currently offer legal sports betting and is sure to attract Bluegrass State bettors. Additionally, the Cincinnati Bengals played on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills, although the game was postponed in the first quarter due to Bills' safety Damar Hamlin suffering a cardiac incident and eventually canceled altogether.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission is expected to release the first sports betting revenue numbers in mid-February after the sportsbook operators report their earnings to the state.
