New Jersey shattered its own monthly sports betting handle in October with $1.3 billion in bets, the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement reported Wednesday.
The number beats the $1 billion record reported in September for the state. The $1.3 billion number is more than New Jersey took in in its first six months of legalization from June to December 2018 ($1.25 billion).
With two months of reporting left and $8.5 billion in handle taken in in 2021, New Jersey has a shot to also be the first state to hit $10 billion in bets in a single year.
New Jersey isn’t the only state to break a record. Pennsylvania broke it’s own record with $776 million in bets taken in in October. Indiana bettors wagered $461.1 million last month.
To put that in context, Indiana bettors wagered $436 million total from September to December 2019.
Other big states like Nevada and Illinois have yet to report for the month.
