MaximBet announced market access deals in Pennsylvania and Ohio Tuesday, opening the door for digital gaming options in two of the nation’s largest markets.

Deal Details

The Pennsylvania deal gives MaximBet access to the state’s iGaming market through a partnership with Caesars Entertainment. Pennsylvania is among a handful of states that allows online casino gaming including digital slots and table games.

In Ohio, MaximBet will have rights to a digital sportsbook, pending legislation. Lawmakers are set to continue debating a bill later this month, though it remains to be seen how many online licenses, or “skins,” will be available.

If granted an Ohio sports betting license, MaximBet will compete with national industry leaders such as DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars and Barstool Sportsbook, all of which have expressed interest in the state or already secured market access deals. Ohio, home to more than a dozen casinos as well as some of the nation’s most prominent sports teams, is expected to be one of the highest-grossing state markets in the U.S.

MaximBet’s deals come days after the company launched a mobile sportsbook in Colorado. The company also has market access deals in Indiana, Iowa, New Jersey and Ontario, Canada.

The future market launches are pending, but company officials hope to go live in each as soon as possible. Football season is perennially sportsbooks’ most lucrative time of the years and the industry expects national handle records this fall.

“Every new market we enter our sole focus is on bringing the best experience to the customer by providing them not only with a world-class sportsbook and casino, but also with access to money-can’t-buy experiences that only a lifestyle brand can provide,” said Daniel Graetzer, CEO of MaximBet, in a statement.

“With incredibly strong partners in both states, we are excited about the efficiencies this scale brings to our business and we look forward to additional market access arrangements in the near future.”

More States Approve Sports Betting

MaximBet’s latest agreements come as a growing number of sports betting states have started accepting their first bets.

Arizona launched its online sportsbooks Sept. 9, hours before the 2021 NFL season kicked off. Washington and South Dakota followed with retail books the same day. Wyoming launched its first online sportsbooks Sept. 1 and a retail casino at the Northern Arapahoe Tribe’s Wind River Hotel & Casino days later.

As of last week, 26 states as well as Washington D.C. had at least one legal online or retail sportsbook.

Connecticut, Maryland and Louisiana are expected to launch their first online sportsbooks in the coming weeks. Retail sportsbooks in Wisconsin and Nebraska are also expected.

Meanwhile Florida is preparing to open its first retail sportsbook at Seminole Hard Rock casinos Oct. 15. An online launch through the Seminole’s Hard Rock Digital app could also go live that same day but is subject to a legal challenge that could delay or prevent the launch.

New York has several legal retail sportsbooks open but is working toward launching its first statewide mobile books. State regulators are now considering bids, with a decision expected by the end of 2021 and a launch sometime before next year’s Super Bowl in February.
