Kansas sports betting fans, rejoice. The wait is almost over.

Confirming a report from Alex Gold on Twitter this morning, Kansas has announced that it will go live with sports betting "soft launch" on Sept. 1 at noon.

The release indicated that the full-scale launch would come one week later, on Sept. 8.

That means bettors will have access to the full Week 1 NFL slate, which kicks off on Sept. 8, and — perhaps more pertinent to locals — a few days of preparation for the Chiefs' Week 1 matchup (Sept. 11 at Arizona).

The expected launch date comes just 113 days following Governor Laura Kelly's singing of the bill to legalize sports gambling (May 12) — an extremely quick turnaround as compared to most other states.

Today's announcement also confirmed the four casinos that are contracted to offer sports betting at launch:

  • Boot Hill Casino
  • Kansas Star Casino
  • Ford County Casino
  • Hollywood Casino

FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings and Barstool are all expected to be among the online operators going live following the launch. FanDuel and DraftKings have already been running pre-registration offers to users worth $100 each.

What About Missouri?

Missouri (unfortunately) may be waiting some time for legalized betting within state lines. But that doesn't mean you can't cross them to take advantage of Kansas' newfound legality once the launch date arrives.

Since only your physical location (not your residency) is used to determine your eligibility to bet, Missourians — especially those in nearby Kansas City — can simply make the trek over to Kansas to register and place bets, and then head back home!
