Handball, rodeo, cornhole, chess and sailing are among the nearly 60 sporting events Arizona sportsbooks are allowed to offer as part of the state’s finalized rules catalog.

Arizona’s wide-ranging catalog, which along with popular American mainstays such as football, basketball and baseball, features dozens of additional foreign and domestic sporting events. Arizona’s approved event list is virtually identical to the gaming catalog in Colorado, which industry stakeholders have touted as one of the nation’s most progressive regulated online gaming markets.

The Arizona catalog offers roughly twice as many events as New Jersey and Indiana, two other states considered regulated market leaders, which permit wagering on “only” 23 and 31 different sporting event types, respectively.

Football, as with every other state, is expected to make up the lion’s share of bets once Arizona’s inaugural sports wagering report is released next month. Arizona sportsbooks aren’t likely to offer all of the thousands of leagues and events technically permitted by Arizona regulators, but it means in-state bettors will have no potential lack of betting options.

Arizona Sports Betting Catalogue Highlights

The Arizona Department of Gaming’s final catalog offers an overwhelming array of not only sports but also leagues and player props.

Sportsbooks are allowed to accept bets on soccer matches governed by more than 200 organizations across nearly 1,700 separate leagues and competitions.

Bettors can not only wager on the English Premier League, the top of England’s soccer pyramid, but also the Championship, League One, League Two and several rungs of local clubs near the bottom of the sport’s hierarchy.

Along with other major domestic soccer organizations in Germany, Italy, Spain and France, Arizona regulators approved wagers on multiple rungs of leagues in Jamaica, Israel, Kazakhstan and several dozen other countries. Sportsbooks can also offer wagers on more than 400 prop-bets across many of these leagues.

Taking its cues almost verbatim from Colorado's catalog, Arizona also approved a vast array of eSports options even as many of the more than two-dozen states taking bets now ban wagering on video game competitions entirely.

In Arizona, that includes wagering on Call of Duty, NBA2K, Rainbow Six, Overwatch and nearly a dozen other regulated video game competitions. Bettors can also wager on 20 separate prop bets, depending on event, including spread and totals betting for certain maps, kills and other criteria.

New Jersey, the first state to take a legal online sports bet outside Nevada, only allows betting on a limited number of League of Legends, eNASCAR and CS:GO events. Indiana prohibits eSports betting entirely.

College prop betting is seemingly one of the few offerings not permitted in Arizona’s sports betting catalog. Arizona’s 2021 sports betting law prohibits individual player prop bets such as how many yards a player will throw for or rebounds they’ll record in a game.

There are still several dozen prop bets available for college football bettors, including Heisman Trophy winner, national champion winner and regular-season win totals. Professional bettors on the NFL, as well as XFL, CFL and Indoor Football League, have several hundred player prop bets available.

Along with college football and basketball, Arizona bettors can also wager on NCAA baseball, hockey, volleyball, beach volleyball, softball and soccer. There are also bets potentially available on many other sports not familiar to most American bettors including netball, pesapallo, handball, bowls, floorball and fustal.

The Arizona Department of Gaming has posted the entire catalog online.

Arizona Sports Betting Details

Arizona launched retail and online sports betting Sept. 9, hours before the 2021 NFL season kicked off. FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, Barstool Sportsbook, WynnBet, TwinSpires and Unibet all offer statewide mobile wagering currently with more operators set to go live in the coming months.

Arizona’s 2021 sports betting law allows up to 20 statewide mobile licenses, 10 partnered with professional sports organizations and 10 with Native American gaming tribes. Along with the aforementioned companies, Bally Bet, BetFred, Betway, BetRivers, Fubo Gaming, Golden Nugget and SuperBook have already announced Arizona market access deals.

Two tribes as well as the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes have also earned licenses but have yet to announce sports betting partners. There are two remaining licenses available for future professional sports organizations.

Chase Field (MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks) and Footprint Center (NBA’s Phoenix Suns) have opened temporary retail sportsbooks, the second U.S. jurisdiction to open in-stadium sportsbooks after Washington D.C.

Other venues such as State Farm Stadium (NFL’s Arizona Cardinals) as well as TPC Scottsdale and the Phoenix Raceway also plan to open sportsbooks at their respective venues.

Certain Arizona gaming tribes can also open retail sportsbooks at their respective casino properties, even if they don’t have a statewide mobile license.
