Our 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes & Preakness Stakes Picks for Pimlico Double (May 20-21)

Looking for a little betting action on Preakness Stakes weekend that gets you alive to the biggest races from the two-day showcase?

Well, look no further than the popular Black-Eyed Susan Stakes | Preakness Stakes Double.

And yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. You pick horses from Friday's Black-Eyed Susan — one of the top events for 3-year-old fillies — and Saturday's 147th running of the Preakness and put them together for your wager.

Simply put, if one of your horses from each race winds up victorious, you're a winner and hopefully headed to the betting window to cash a profitable ticket.

Action Network handicapper Jeremy Pond and TVG analyst Andie Biancone connected on several Daily Double winners on the road to the Triple Crown races, with some wagers featuring sizable payouts. Well, the duo is back for Preakness weekend with some live picks and hope to deliver more winners.

As for the television schedule, Friday's Black-Eyed Susan Stakes is slated for a 5:44 p.m. ET post time and will air live on USA Network. That telecast from Pimlico runs from 5-6 p.m. ET for the featured event. Full coverage of the day's racing takes place from 12:30 p.m. to  5:30 p.m. ET on FS2.

The Preakness, which will feature nine of the top 3-year-old horses in the world going 1 3/16 miles on the Pimlico dirt track, is set for a post time of 7:01 p.m. ET, with NBC providing the TV coverage.

Earlier races from Pimlico will air on FS2 from 12-6:30 p.m. ET and CNBC from to 2-4 p.m. ET, then switch to NBC from 4-7:30 p.m. ET. You can also stream the races on NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app and Peacock Premium.

Pond's Analysis

Black-Eyed Susan Stakes — No. 6 Luna Belle (9-2) enters this race as “hometown” favorite, having won five consecutive stakes races just 24 miles south of Pimlico at Laurel Park. The Maryland-bred standout will have Denis Araujo aboard. However, she will have to take a big step up if she’s going to hit the winner’s circle since she’s facing tougher competition.

No. 7 Distinctlypossible (6-1) is my live play at a decent price. She’s coming off a nice Maiden Special Weight victory on April 10 at Lexington. The daughter of Curlin might be even better following her layoff, plus she gets the trainer-jockey combination of Chad Brown and Irad Ortiz Jr. leading the way.

No. 9 Interstatedaydream (6-1) is much like Distinctlypossible, where I simply can’t pass up these odds with these champion connections. She’s coming off a third-place effort in the Ashland Stakes on April 8 at Keeneland, but might have been a little tired after her March 13 romp in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Oaklawn Park.

Trainer Brad Cox will saddle his contender, plus she gets jockey Florent Geroux in the irons. Bottom line, there's no chance I’m leaving her off my ticket.

No. 10 Adare Manor (5-2) is the only horse with a graded-stakes win on her résumé. Now under the care of trainer Tim Yakteen, Adare Manor crushed the field in a 13-length victory in the Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

She followed that up with a second in the Santa Anita Oaks, with the winner of that race coming back to finish third in the Kentucky Oaks. This is a dangerous horse, but I'm hoping her odds drift closer to 7-2 or 4-1 prior to placing my bet.

Preakness Stakes — To say I love No. 4 Secret Oath (9-2) would be the definition of an understatement. She was all class beating the ladies in the Kentucky Oaks, so I expect another monster effort here. The daughter of 2016 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Arrogate was a game third in the Arkansas Derby, finishing behind Cyberknife and runner-up Barber Road.

However, she had a terrible break that day, and with a better start, she might have won. Secret Oath looks to become the seventh filly to win the Preakness in the 147 years it has been in existence.

No. 5 Early Voting (7-2) is my top pick. Trainer Chad Brown opted to skip the Derby, instead targeting the second jewel of the Triple Crown. He’s fresh after a second-place effort in the Wood Memorial and sitting on a big effort with jockey Jose Ortiz in the saddle. I hope these odds hold or drift up before the nine contenders reach the starting gate.

No. 8 Epicenter (6-5) is the clear favorite, so he’s a must use. The only question is whether or not he bounces off that runner-up finish at Churchill Downs. This will be the eighth start of his career, which is an awful lot for a 3-year-old horse of this caliber. If he wins, he wins. However, let’s hope we catch a better price instead with one of the others.

No. 9 Skippylongstocking (20-1) wasn’t on my radar until Andie made a nice case for the longshot, who gets Junior Alvarado in the irons. A lot has to happen for this horse to win, but we saw what happened in the Kentucky Derby. That said, I’m throwing the son of Exaggerator on my ticket.
