Valspar Championship Market Report: Bettors Buying in on Corey Conners

Corey Conners hasn't won a golf tournament since his lone victory on the PGA TOUR back in April of 2019. Still, bettors are buying in on the Canadian at this week's Valspar Championship.
Conners ranks in the top three in terms of total bets and money placed by bettors to win outright, according to data released by BetMGM. That action makes him the sportsbook's biggest liability over betting favorites Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson.
Conners won the Valero Texas Open in 2019 as a late entrant into the field. He hasn't won since, but he enters the Valspar Championship in great form and sporting a career-best No. 38 ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
He hasn't finished outside the top-15 of a tournament since his missed cut at the Genesis in February. He's finished in the top 10 in four of the five tournaments since then.
Innisbrook's Copperhead Course, host of the 2021 Valspar Championship, is considered a course where ball-striking matters and putting isn't quite as important as it is in other TOUR stops. That's a good reason for the Conners love, as 8.5% of the total handle and 5.4% of the bets are on him.
Only Thomas has taken more total bets at 7.1% than Conners. Furthermore, Thomas (10.3%) and Johnson (9.4%) are the only golfers with a higher handle percentage.
Conners is listed at +1800. Thomas is +1000 while Johnson is +1100.
Fresh off a second-place performance in the team event last week, Louis Oosthuizen is the second-liability for the book at +3000. He's fourth in total handle at 7.2%. Thomas is the third-biggest liability.
