This major championship is taking place at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the first time since Tiger Woods won the PGA Championship in 2007.

Southern Hills is a Par 70, 7,556-yard track that should play difficult with the world's best competing for a major championship. The PGA Championship is known for iron play, so we will look at SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Approach the Green to narrow down our best bets.

The outright favorite to win the PGA Championship, Jon Rahm enters this tournament as the No. 2 golfer in the world. Rahm is one of the best iron players in the world, as he ranks first on TOUR in SG Tee-to-Green and 14th in SG Approach the Green.

Entering this tournament in tremendous form, Rahm has made the cut in 10 straight tournaments and is coming straight off of his win at the Mexico Open at Vidanta.

Not only has Rahm been dominating tournaments this season, but he has been outstanding in major championships, making the cut in 10 straight majors.

I would play this number down to 70.5.

Scottie Scheffler: Round 1 Under 71 Strokes

I'm also backing the other favorite to win this tournament, as Scottie Scheffler enters this weekend as the No. 1 golfer in the world. This ranking is extremely warranted after winning four tournaments already this season and making the cut in 14-of-15 events.

One could say Scheffler fared well in his most recent major championship appearance, as he slipped on the green jacket after winning the Masters. Not only did Scheffler fare well at Augusta, but he has finished inside the top 20 in seven straight major championships.

I would play this total down to 70.5.

Dustin Johnson: Round 1 Over 72 Strokes

While Dustin Johnson is one of the world's best golfers, his performances have been very inconsistent in major championships recently. While Johnson has three top-20 finishes over his last five major championship appearances, he has missed the cut in the other two tournaments.

This course could provide trouble for Johnson, as his iron play is not on track with some of the other top names this season. Johnson ranks just 42nd on TOUR in SG Tee-to-Green and 43rd in SG Approach the Green.

I would not play this number at anything higher than 72.

Adam Scott: Round 1 Over 72 Strokes

Another golfer I'm fading in this tournament is Adam Scott.

Like Johnson, Scott's iron play this season falls short of many of the other names in this tournament, ranking just 72nd on TOUR in SG Tee-to-Green and 56th in SG Approach the Green.

Scott does not enter this tournament in spectacular form, as he has just three top-20 finishes on the season with only one of those coming over his last five tournaments. While Scott is making cuts, he's not finding himself at the top of leaderboards on a consistent basis.

I would play this total up to 72.5.

Hideki Matsuyama: Round 1 Under 71 Strokes

My favorite outright bet to win the whole tournament, Matsuyama should get off to a strong start at the PGA Championship following last week's third-place finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

This tournament favors Matsuyama's style of play, as he ranks ninth on TOUR in SG Tee-to-Green and sixth in SG Approach the Green.

Continuing where he left off last season, Matsuyama has been incredible for the second year in a row. Matsuyama has made the cut in 12-of-13 tournaments this season with eight top-20 finishes and two outright wins.

Last year's Masters champion, Matsuyama has been on fire when playing in major championships, making seven straight cuts with four top-20 finishes over that span.

I would play this number down to 70.5.
