With another WGC event taking the top players attention this week, the rest of the tour gets a valuable chance to lock up their status in an alternate field event.

The Tour returns to the Dominican Republic for the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.

If it feels like we've already seen this event during this season … well, we did. This event joins The Masters and U.S. Open as being held twice in the 2020-2021 season.

The Course

Corales Golf Club hosts the event for the sixth time overall, and the fourth time as a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event. The first two iterations were part of the Korn Ferry Tour schedule.

Corales is long, measuring at 7,670 yards for a par 72. Despite that length, previous champions have typically been shorter hitters who caught fire on the greens. Graeme McDowell and Brice Garnett won the two PGA events, while Nate Lashley and Dominic Bozzelli were the Korn Ferry winners. None of those four golfers are known for their length. Defending champ Hudson Swafford bucked that trend a bit. He's around the top 50 in distance off the tee, but still among the longest in the game.

The Favorites

Not much really stands out at the top of the board for this event. No one under +3000 has ever finished inside the top 10 on this course in a combined seven starts.

Thomas Pieters and Charley Hoffman lead the odds at +1600 and +1800, respectively. Hoffman has been showing good form of late with three top-20 finishes in his last four starts to go along with a 14th here in the fall.

Emiliano Grillo is next at +2000 followed by Jhonattan Vegas at +2500. Vegas was second last month in Puerto Rico in another alternate field event similar to this.

The Midtier

Usually alt fields are where I'll pepper in quite a few bets, but not a lot is catching my eye this week.

I will go with Chase Seiffert at +5000 at DraftKings. Seiffert gained nearly eight strokes on approach last week at the Honda, so the irons should be in decent shape. He's also played well in some of the lower-strength fields this year, placing 12th in Puerto Rico and 15th at the Amex.

The Longshots

I'll circle back to Rafael Campos here at 175/1 at DraftKings. The Caribbean events are where he shines as we saw in Puerto Rico last month. His history here isn't nearly as good, but he was third in 2017 on this course when it was part of the Korn Ferry Tour.

I'm also going to throw a dart at Wes Roach at 250/1 at DraftKings. Just going back to Puerto Rico, he played fairly well there and has made two of three cuts here during his career.

The Corales Card

  • Chase Seiffert +5000 (.66 units)
  • Rafael Campos +17500 (.19 units)
  • Wes Roach +25000 (.13 units)

Total Stake: 0.98 units
