Trevor Bauer Signs With Dodgers: Odds Change After Rumors Hinted at Mets

For weeks, it seemed free agent starting pitcher Trevor Bauer was destined to be a New York Met, but when news broke on Friday it was the Los Angeles Dodgers coming away with the defending NL Cy Young winner.

Oddsmakers were forced to adjust to the rumors on Thursday that the Mets had a major offer out to the right-hander. PointsBet moved the Mets from +1200 to +1000 to win the World Series. New York was +800 to win it at FanDuel.

But that all changed when MLB Network's Jon Heyman broke the news of Bauer's decision to head to Los Angeles.

FanDuel moved New York back to +1100 while adjusting the Dodgers — who were already the consensus World Series favorite — down to +350 from +450.

DraftKings dropped the Dodgers from +425 to +375. PointsBet moved the Dodgers to +350 to win the World Series, +175 to win the NL and -250 to win the division.

Overall, it doesn't change much for Los Angeles from a betting standpoint. The Dodgers were already heavy favorites to win in any way possible — from the NL West to the National League to the World Series. But it's bad news for Mets bettors who thought they were beating the news by getting in on New York early.

At PointsBet, the Mets are the top liability to win both the NL pennant and the World Series. PointsBet Director of Communications told The Action Network that the sportsbook "got pounded by New Jersey bettors on Mets futures."

If the Mets had money to offer Bauer, it's likely they'll remain active in the starting pitcher market with names like Jake Odorizzi, James Paxton and Taijuan Walker on the board.
