Fresh off signing a $340-million extension, sports bettors are lining up to take Fernando Tatis Jr. to win the NL MVP.

According to data released by PointsBet, the San Diego Padres shortstop is the most-bet player to win the award, just ahead of fellow 22-year-old star Juan Soto. Tatis Jr. has taken 21% of NL MVP bets; Nationals outfielder Soto has taken 20% of bets.

Tatis Jr. is +850 to win the award as he tries to become the first shortstop to win the MVP in either league since Jimmy Rollins in 2007. Alex Rodriguez won the award in the AL that year, but he was playing third base (thanks, Derek Jeter).

Soto is actually the betting favorite at +750. He'd be the first Nationals MVP since Bryce Harper in 2015.

Only Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger separate Soto and Tatis Jr. on the oddsboard. Both Dodgers are +800.

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager (+1500) is the other player seeing notable action in the MVP market, getting 8% of bets to win the award.

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman won the award in 2020, and he's +1200 to do it again in 2021.

In other National League markets, the St. Louis Cardinals are among the biggest liabilities at PointsBet to win the pennant. St. Louis made a splash adding Nolan Arenado in the offseason.

Along with the Cardinals, the Mets and Dodgers round out the top three for biggest liabilities for the book.

The White Sox are the team seeing love from bettors in the American League market, which Collin Whitchurch broke down here.
