  • Joshua Perry breaks down the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship from a betting perspective.
  • He's backing eight players on his card this week, including Brian Harman, Pat Perez and Adam Schenk.

Not much went well at Corales last week. We had a bunch of guys make the cut, but none ever worked their way into contention.

Hudson Swafford came out on top after being listed as high as 200/1 before the tournament. Both Swafford and Adam Long, who was the 54-hole leader, previously won the American Express, so there may be a little correlation to dive into next time around at this event.

Now, we're ready for the Sanderson Farms Championship, another of the fall swing events in which the big names will sit out.

It's been a tough tournament to nail down over the years. Prior to Sebastian Munoz last season, no winners at the Country Club of Jackson had ever made a cut at the course prior to winning.

We also get winners who bomb it like Cameron Champ. Then, we'll have the shortest guys on TOUR, like Ryan Armour, come out and take down the title. Overall, there hasn't been one overriding skill set that has stood out here.

The Course

The Country Club of Jackson is on the longer side, measuring 7,460 yards for a par 72.

It's also been a spot where players further down the odds board have snuck out with some wins. Champ was the closest to being near the top at +4500, and three of the six winners here have been triple digits.

There isn't much to test the players here. The winner will need to get near 20-under par this week. It caters to a few styles of play as previously mentioned, so it will come down to who can catch a hot putter on these Bermuda greens.

The Favorites

Scottie Scheffler is back and opens as the favorite at +1000. This is his first start since his positive COVID-19 test that forced him to withdraw from the U.S. Open.

Louis Oosthuizen and Sungjae Im are next in line at +1400. Im was the runner up last season after losing in a playoff to Munoz. Oosthuizen will be making his debut at the event.

Will Zalatoris wraps up the teens at +1800. A final round 65 on Sunday was enough to sneak him into the top 10 at Corales and qualify him for the event. In a normal season, he'd already have a TOUR Card, but after a hot start, he's working his way toward special temporary membership status already this year.

The defending champ Munoz and Sam Burns come in at +2500. Burns will catch a lot of eyes this week. He's been playing well for months, should feel comfortable on Bermuda, and finished third here two years ago.

The Mid-Tier

I'll start the card here with Brian Harman at +4000 on BetMGM. A lot of this week for me will come down to form and comfortability on Bermuda. The Georgia Bulldog checks both of those boxes. Harman hasn't missed a cut in nearly three months, and though past performance hasn't been a prerequisite for success here, Harman was 14th in his Jackson debut last season.

Next, we'll go with Charley Hoffman at +7000 on DraftKings. Hoffman had a solid week, finishing 14th at Corales, and has strung together some solid results overall. He's made six of his last eight cuts with four top-25s during that stretch. He's also 2-for-2 playing the weekend in Jackson.

I'll also go back to Pat Perez at +8000 on BetMGM. He was on the card last week and finished 21st — nothing special, but another solid week for the veteran to go along with a ninth-place finish at Safeway a few weeks ago.

I'll stay at the +8000 number and add Denny McCarthy as well on BetMGM. McCarthy has two top-20 finishes here the last two seasons, including seventh two years ago. He's also one of the best Bermuda putters on TOUR.

The Longshots

This has been a good place to hit the longshots in the past, so I'll pepper in a few guys this week.

I'll start this range with Cameron Tringale at 100/1 on DraftKings. Tringale hasn't had many starts on TOUR recently, but he was third a couple of months back at the 3M Open. He's also made the cut in all three starts on this course and finished inside the top 20 in Jackson for the first time last year.

We'll go to the Corales card one more time with Adam Schenk at 120/1 on FanDuel. Schenk had another decent week but is still looking for a high-end finish. We backed him last week at +4000, and I don't see anything in this field or with his play to suggest that number should have tripled. He's made the cut in all three of his appearances here, including a seventh in 2018.

I'll also go with Patton Kizzire at 200/1 on BetMGM. Kizzire is a player I tend to target at bigger numbers on Bermuda greens. He's had a mixed bag in Jackson with two top 10s and two missed cuts, but those high-end finishes are what I like from a player this far down the board.

Lastly, you know I'll be backing Davis Riley here at 225/1 on DraftKings. I've written about Riley a half-dozen times already this year. It was this spot a year ago where he really caught my eye as a top-20 sleeper. Since then, he's won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour, but the odds haven't adjusted much. The form isn't great coming in with three straight missed cuts, but that's the type of player he is — the results will never be as consistent as his KFT counterpart Zalatoris. But the winning upside when the game is right is just as high. He's the prototypical boom-or-bust guy. In 19 starts this year, he's got seven missed cuts but also holds five top-10 finishes, including two wins.
